Knee Joint Reconstruction with Porcine Cartilage! ACRO Biomedical Research and Development Published in International Journal‎

ACRO Biomedical, the world's first to use supercritical carbon dioxide extraction technology to remove cells from animal tissues and organs, has recently published its important research result “Supercritical carbon dioxide decellularized porcine cartilage graft with PRP attenuated OA progression and regenerated articular cartilage in ACLT-induced OA rats" in the Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.

The research results shows that the use of supercritical carbon dioxide decellularized porcine cartilage collagen scaffolds developed by ACRO Biomedical, combined with animal's own platelet rich plasma can alleviate the deterioration of degenerative arthritis and reconstruct knee articular cartilage defect.

The global market for osteoarthritis in 2020 was US$7.3 billion, and is expected to reach US$11 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.7%. However, non-steroidal pain relievers (NSAIDs) remain the mainstay of treatment so far.

ACRO's decellularized cartilage graft has obtained invention patents in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, India and more than 10 countries in the European Union. The treatment method is very simple. The decellularized cartilage graft only needs to be combined with the patient's own PRP and directly injected into the articular cartilage defect. ACRO will complete the human clinical trials as soon as possible and obtain medical device certificate from the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan.
