
ACRO Biomedical received the 18th National Innovation Award from the Research Center for Biotechnology and Medicine Policy for its tissue and organ regeneration technology. Researches on organ regeneration are expedited with this technology, bringing new hope to patients with needs of organ transplantation.
Originally, supercritical CO2 extraction technology was used in the extraction of herbal medicines and essential oils. After years of research and development, ACRO Biomedical has successfully applied this technology on porcine skin, bones, corneas, blood vessels, nerves, heart, liver, kidney, and other organs to remove cells, fat, and non-collagenous proteins, while leaving the intact collagen scaffolds as the biomaterial for high-end medical devices. This application is green and efficient. The products can be applied in many different fields and reduce the chances of immune rejection when compared to other similar products. ACRO has not only been certified by the Research Center for Biotechnology and Medicine Policy, the largest biomedical innovation and entrepreneurship platform in Taiwan, but also obtained multiple medical device certificates from the USFDA and Taiwan FDA.
Dr. Dar-Jen Hsieh, CEO of ACRO Biomedical, further explained that the global market for degenerative arthritis in 2020 was US$7.3 billion, and it is estimated to reach US$11 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.7%. The market is quite large. After ACRO Biomedical obtained its latest US patent “PREPARATION OF ACELLULAR CARTILAGE GRAFT AND USES THEREOF,” ACRO will begin its planning on channel of sales, hoping to accelerate revenue expansion and brining new hope to more patients.
